What You Need to Make Pizza Pull Apart Bread

  • Sourdough bread: make sure you find a bakery loaf of sourdough, not the pre-sliced kind.
  • Butter: need I say more?
  • Garlic: you’ll be mixing garlic with melted butter to smother all over the bread. You’re welcome.
  • Italian seasoning: every zza deserves some Italian seasoning.
  • Pepperoni: pepperoni is an easy add because it’s already pre-cooked and provides the classic pizza flavor.
  • Mozzarella cheese: pizza isn’t pizza without the cheese! This recipe calls for mozzarella cheese.
  • Marinara sauce (for dipping): to complete the meal, heat up a little marinara sauce for dipping!
  • Pastry brush: make sure you have a pastry brush to slather on that delicious garlic butter.

Variations and Substitutions

Just like traditional pizza, this pull apart pizza bread is the perfect canvas for all kinds of toppings and flavor variations. Not a fan of pepperoni? It’s A-okay. Feel free to add any of your favorite pizza toppings to the bread before baking.

Are you a minimalist? Totally cool. Just top your bread with mozzarella and call it a day. You could also add peppers and onions if you prefer a veggie option. Just sauté up a green pepper and half a medium onion and then sprinkle it on before baking.

We’re also big fans of topping this pizza bread recipe with buffalo chicken. If you’ve got leftovers, even better!

Top Tips for Pizza Pull Apart Bread Recipe

Make sure to use a sharp knife. A sharp, cerated knife will make cutting through the sourdough that much easier. That way, you won’t squish your bread while trying to cut it.

Choose a bakery loaf of sourdough. You want your bread to be sturdy enough to hold all the toppings and not get soggy. A pre-sliced mass-produced sourdough may not hold up as well as one from your local bakery.

Don’t skip the garlic butter! This simple mixture adds a ton of flavor to the bread. Plus, it helps to keep the bread from drying out in the oven.
